Match Report: u8 Valiants

Match Report 15-09-2019 – FC Elmstead v Junior Reds Valiants

So, the big day finally arrived on Sunday, Junior Reds Valiants first competitive League game. Steve took the decision to name Sonny as captain for this game, the delight was obvious in Sonny’s face, especially when he found out the Captain has the privilege of not being subbed! Those who have not been captain yet will get their turns.

The game was broken down into 4 × 10 minute quarters. The first quarter started with a lot of early pressure from JRVs with a couple of goalmouth scrambles that could have easily ended up with a goal. The first quarter ended up goalless in the end, some great attacking play and defending shown by the boys, Bradley and Alfie tracking down and tackling well.

The 2nd quarter started with a bang! Jesse kicking off passing the ball to Sonny, who ran down the right wing, crossing in the perfect ball for Jesse to slot the ball home! 1-0 to JRV! A free kick soon followed for FCE, very skilfully put away in the top right corner. FCE’s confidence seem to grow from this, and 2 more goals soon followed from some skilful strong play from their forward.

During this quarter James and Teddy came on, and showed some great defending, tackling and making valuable clearances when needed.

During the next 2 quarters, FCE scored a couple more goals. Thomas took an injury and Bradley, very bravely and confidently, stepped in to go in goal, making some vital saves and challenges. Ose, Jesse and Sonny had further chances in front of goal; Ose hitting the post, Sonny getting brought down in the box (Come on Ref!!!) and Jesse also having a couple of opportunities. On another day these may have ended up in the back of the net!

But once again, both us coaches were very impressed with the application, effort and attitudes from all players:

Thomas made some vital saves, and made decisions to come out to successfully intercept an attacking player at times – well done!

Bradley – as strong as ever, with good awareness when clearing the ball, and confidence to go into goal as well.

James – never giving up when faced with an attacking player, making some vital tackles and clearances, and never letting his head drop!

Teddy – Being very solid when defending, and at times tackling and then starting a run with the ball to create attacking opportunities

Alfie – Ever dependable when tackling, intercepting and clearing the ball, and taking care of the tricky number 7!

Ose – Again – improving from the week before, with his strength and skills moving the ball from the mid pitch to an attacking position!

Captain Sonny – Fantastic piece of play from Sonny to set the goal up, and moments of skill and strength when pushing forward too!

And goalscorer Man of the Match Jesse – Some good positioning in attack, which payed dividends for the goal, excellent run and awareness for that!!!

In time their confidence will grow, they will relax, and take their practice form into the real game, and then I think they will be unstoppable, because the skill and talent is definitely there!
